There have been several of these caterpillars on my dill plants, so I took a picture intending to post here seeing if anyone knew what kind it was. I finally found it online this morning though – it’s a black swallowtail. There’s a few pictures of the butterflies themselves here.
Very neat! We found our first Monarch caterpillars in our yard this year. We’ve watched and looked every year and this is the first year that we’ve found any! We brought them in and watched the entire process and released 4 Monarchs about a week ago!
How fun!
Oh! What a pretty caterpillar. Are they overly fond of dill or is that just a coincidence?
I don’t know. They do seem to at least prefer the dill – it’s the only plant I’ve seen them on in the entire garden. There were several on the dill, so maybe. I don’t know.
how pretty!
