S had a birthday yesterday, so I made him a bag to keep all of his 1,001 little Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars in (ok, so he doesn’t have that many, it just seems like it). I also made him one for all of his John Deere tractors.

Both bags are made from heavy twill pieces left over from skirts I made a long time ago. The strings are pieces of folded bias tape sewn together. They’re a lot sturdier than plain string and since I have a ton of it in the house, it’s easy to match colors to projects. Bias tape makes great drawstrings for skirts too. . .

The tractor bag I appliqued the S on. I’m fairly new to applique but I really like how it turned out. I decided to do applique because the scraps of the John Deere fabric I had are too small to do much else with.

The car bag I just backstitched the design. It took more time than I thought, so I might not try that again. It turned out ok though.

Now we’ll see if they really help keep all those cars together when S isn’t playing with them!

Spread the love
